pathway2netzero was formed in November 2020 by Mark Arthur to primarily bring together technical and financial expertise to help invest and support businesses and people who have innovative ideas, services, and products but have no means to gain access to finance due to the inability to show a trading track record and/or profitability.

 

pathway2netzero has been formed to address these issues and help develop and grow the next generation of entrepreneurs and inventors in what shall be the next industrial revolution to create a NetZero greenhouse gas emissions world and economy.

Our Expertise

Our Management Team have a proven track record in the Renewable Energy Infrastructure and Financial Services sectors and over the last ten years have focussed on carbon neutrality and NetZero technologies. We have the skills required to undertake due diligence from a technical and financial perspective on businesses, products and/or infrastructure projects and shall be adding / supplementing these skills with more management team members over the coming months.

Our Commitment to Results

Unlike most other Investment Companies at pathway2netzero we shall not just invest monies in businesses’ products or infrastructure projects we shall invest our time, expertise, experience and knowledge in all investments. Indeed, our involvement is one of the key requirements as part of the financial investment as we believe it shall firstly add value to the businesses / individuals requesting the support and secondly, and importantly, protect our investors’ interests to ensure they get the return agreed at the investment launch.

Our Philosophy

pathway2netzero has been established to be a profitable and successful business in its own right within the Carbon Neutrality sector, however one of the key reasons we, as a Management Team, are going on this journey is to help others fulfil their potential and at the same time help the planet to achieve a cleaner greener future.  We are all at a senior stage in our careers.  We want to enjoy this journey and have the satisfaction of helping others achieve their dreams and hopefully leave a legacy our families can be proud of.

Mark Arthur

Mark is a Chartered Engineer and has held Owner Manager and Executive Director positions, within the engineering and consultancy sector throughout his thirty years in the industry. During this time Mark has also been a board director with the Association for Consultancy and Engineering and was the Scotland Chair during his tenure. Mark has also held roles in various Groups including Scottish Future Trusts / The Scottish Government's Construction Quality Improvement Collaborative and Reference Group and Construction Scotland's Representative Bodies Group.

 

Mark has a keen interest in industry and academia research collaboration and during his twenty years employment, at engineering consultant HDR | Hurley Palmer Flatt, was the director responsible for developing the decentralised Hybrid Energy Centre and Infrastructure service line via a two-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Strathclyde Universities Energy Systems Research Unit and Innovate UK.

David is a fully qualified physicist and energy engineer, with over 30 years’ experience in energy systems. His previous experience includes work as a physicist with UKAEA working on the Fast Reactor and as an Energy Consultant with several organisations for UK and international based contracts.

 

He holds an Engineering Doctorate, is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Energy Institute, and a Chartered Energy Engineer. He previously was Director for Energy and Sustainability with Hurley Palmer Flatt before forming Sonas Energy. Sonas is a micro-enterprise specialising in the early stage development of decentralised, and embedded low carbon energy systems. 

 

David was the sustainability consultant and concept designer of the Energy Strategy at TECA, and is currently working with a number of clients on smart microgrid and modern 5th generation heat networks aimed at delivering net zero for both new build and retrofit projects.

Expertise

  • Developed the strategy and concept of Net Zero 3 as outlined below and is seen and recognised as an expert within the UK in the decarbonisation of the Built Environment.

  • Net Zero 3 – Is an integrated approach to the deep decarbonisation of heat, power and transport.

  • Net Zero 3 explicitly recognises the increasing interconnection and coupling of power, heat and transport within the built environment.

  • In Net Zero 3 we leverage complementary local heat, power and transport energy demands in local micro-grids with decentralised and embedded energy assets.

  • Net Zero 3 makes extensive use of fibre and 5G data networks and analytics to improve matching of supply side and demand side in the energy system and maximise the use of energy resources.

Alan is a Chartered Banker and commercially focused risk professional with a wealth of experience of developing, influencing, and delivering strategy in regulated financial environments. A successful track record in providing funding solutions, supporting Business growth, and in working on complex Business Turnaround cases throughout his forty years in Business and Corporate Banking with Virgin Money plc (Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks).

 

Alan adopts a pro-active approach to managing growth opportunities, risk and return in the business environment, leveraging experience from across many industry sectors and business cycles. This supports the provision of trusted strategic and operational risk advice and thought leadership.
